The Wadena Wildcat Pee Wee boys softball team hosted their North Central Saskatchewan League during Wadena Ball Day on June 3. The day would feature some of the top teams in Western Canada with teams coming from Prince Albert, Saskatoon and Irma, Alberta. The local team started their day with a great battle against the Prince Albert Astros, eventually losing 3-2 in what many observers called “an unbelievable game for 12 and 13-year olds”. Next up for the local boys would be the Irma Tigers, the perennial provincial champs from Alberta. The game would stay close for the first three innings before the Wildcats would pull ahead, with the final score ending up 9-3 Wadena. The Cats final game would be against the Saskatoon AA Selects, with the boys scoring early and often, finishing the day with a 10-1 win. Next action for the Wildcats is in Delisle on June 10 against Shellbrook, Warman and Delisle before heading to Provincials on July 8 and 9. Following Provincials it is off to the National Championships in Palmerston, Ontario in August.
Other minor ball games during the day included the Wadena Wildcat Mites against Humboldt 1, the Learn to Play Boys against the Learn to Play Girls, and Wadena Mosquito Boys Baseball played the squad from Wynyard. The Pee Wee Girls Softball team had a good battle against Humboldt 2 but lost by two. Mya Kolash of Wadena had a home run in the game.
